Learning Environments

Working Online:

Our primary learning environment will be in an online environment.  In the online environment, the student will find lessons, assignments, discussion boards, calendars, chat rooms and other tools that will be used to help learn the outcomes of the course and demonstrate understanding.  The course is designed to allow for flexibility along with an opportunity to be successful.  All assignments, updates and support links will be posted on the teacher’s Weblog www.mslucking.wordpress.com. It  is the student’s responsibility to check-in at the Share Point site regularly.  As well, there will also be access to the student’s grades at the Engrade site, http://engrade.com/login.php.  The student should check to ensure that all scores are correct and up-to-date.  Many students find that being an independent and autonomous learner is difficult and takes dedication.  However, by the time online courses are completed, many students report feeling better prepared for future learning challenges.  Our program has expectations around active participation; students should plan to work on assignments at a regular pace (on average 1-2 hours per day for each class).

Face Time:

During weekly online meetings (seminar), we will have time to review the concepts, engage in new topics, and complete participation activities.  Students may also be required to do face-to-face time in order to complete written assessments and tests.

Evaluation

Students should work on assignments continually and turn them regularly to remain active in this course.  Marks will be awarded on the following basis:

Tutorial Participation

When submitting assignments email is the preferred method.  Use this format for naming files: your name and assignment title: (ie. John Smith – Module 1 Lesson 2 short story).  Also put your name in the document to make it easy to search for old assignments as necessary.   If you don’t get an email from me to confirm that I’ve received your assignment, send it again and keep all sent emails.

Plagiarism and Cheating

Any students that plagiarize any portion of an assignment will receive a zero and possibly a comment on their report card.  The problem will also be referred to administration.  For your own protection, keep all drafts of all work until the end of the school year.
